What are you doing to learn and practice these skills? Are there things we can do to learn while practicing our skills at work?
In the pursuit of excellence, the notion of facilitation in the space of complexity, targeted by this workshop, is of primary importance and will teach students the scientific foundation for human dynamics. This workshop will focus on methods designed to facilitate learning, thinking, and the acquiring of new behaviors for personal growth and professional advancement. As our workplace cultural efforts affect more and more engineers, the subject of effective help for managers, facilitators, coaches of the new paradigms, becomes of primary importance. A push towards a new culture necessitates significant efforts towards properly guiding people. This course will provide a practical foundation for facilitation in complexity in three distinct parts:
The workshops will be useful for leaders, managers, scrum masters, product owners, as well as individual contributors. Classes are grounded in the latest findings within cognitive psychology, neuroscience and anthro-complexity aimed at supporting people who are paid for thinking. More information on each workshop is presented further down on this page.

Class Content description:

Engagement - Participation is the new currency in the complex world of VUCA (Volatility-Uncertainty-Complexity-Ambiguity). It is highly valued along with reputation and consistency. After completing the Engagement workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Use effective conversation in support of our teams (agile/lean, etc.) to generate engagement and promote an inquisitive mind set.
  • Be aware of cognitive biases and possible ways to remedy them via conversational patterns
  • Use a simple four step technique, which can help facilitate a mindful approach in introducing change and eliminating resistance
  • Understand and use newly discovered practical aspects of “Implementation Intentions”
  • Influence the formation of effective work habits with SUPRA model - the primary goal of our workshop.
Decision Making - The material presented in this class facilitates better understanding of cooperation, work standardization, problem solving and decision making in a complex VUCA environment. How can we recognize complexity in organizations, and how to best work with it? How do we develop our conversational capacity to promote diversity and inclusion of views and approaches? What is a value of work standardization? Benefits and limitations of different techniques in decision making and problem solving. Which approach provides better outcomes: engaged and participating humans or mechanical systems of work? We will address the above questions in a naturalistic decision-making context so that participants will be able to apply these skills into daily practice:
  • Cynefin Framework® (as of May 2021 European Union framework of choice for complexity & crisis management)
  • Decision Making and problem solving under inherent uncertainty
  • Understand the value of constraints and limits of standardization
  • Awareness of cognitive biases, heuristics and Recognition Primed Decision Making
  • Understand basic classification of human error
  • Application of Conversation Capacity.
Adaptive Leadership - Adaptability is a key business driver in highly uncertain complex environments. This class will focus on understanding of the adaptability concept in the engineering work environment. We will learn about tools and methods as well as accentuate practical applications.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
  • Distinguish between technical and adaptive challenges
  • Understand the importance of collective insights and actions thresholds
  • Benefits of self-organization (OPO principles)
  • Understand power, trust and differences between authority and leadership (formal and informal)
  • How art and music help us to function well in ambiguity
  • Purpose and possibility of Adaptive Practices.
This effort supports our desire to improve the culture and accelerate change in organizations of any size. Take this course and see how you can enhance your professional and personal skills while contributing to the success of your workplace.
